India's Green Horizon: On Track for 100 GW Wind Energy by 2030

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced on June 15, 2025, that India has achieved 51.5 GW of wind energy capacity—reflecting a 150% increase over the past decade. Speaking at the Global Wind Day Conference in Bengaluru, the Minister credited this milestone to the “visionary leadership” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose direction clean energy has become a cornerstone of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

India now ranks as the world’s fourth-largest wind power generator and the third-largest producer of renewable energy, with growing exports of wind turbines and components. The country has set an ambitious target of 100 GW of wind energy by 2030, including 30 GW from offshore sources, backed by supportive policies and a strong domestic manufacturing base.

Since 2014, renewable energy capacity has surged—from 0.242 GW to 110 GW in solar, and from 22 GW to 51.5 GW in wind. The Minister also highlighted the government's Rs 7,453 crore Viability Gap Funding scheme to accelerate offshore wind development.
