The Board of Directors of Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd. (SAMIL) has approved entering into Power Delivery Agreements (PDA) with HR Dhauliganga (HRDPL) for the development of a ~50 MWp solar captive power plant in Tamil Nadu. This strategic move underscores SAMIL’s commitment to sustainability and its transition toward cleaner, cost-effective energy solutions.
The solar project will supply long-term renewable power to multiple SAMIL facilities across the state, supporting the company’s broader decarbonization goals. Once operational, it is expected to reduce approximately 1.38 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over its lifetime. The investment is targeted for completion by Q2 FY26.
To comply with Indian electricity regulations for captive power usage, SAMIL and its subsidiaries will acquire a 28.15% equity stake in HRDPL—meeting the mandated ownership threshold for captive consumption. This positions SAMIL not only as a consumer but also as an active stakeholder in India’s renewable energy transition.
This initiative enhances energy reliability for SAMIL’s operations and marks a significant milestone in advancing the company’s ESG objectives and long-term sustainability roadmap.
