Shree Cement has commissioned a 6.0 MWp solar power plant at its Roorkee facility in Uttarakhand, marking a significant step toward its RE100 renewable energy goals and commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
Located adjacent to its existing cement operations, the new installation increases the solar capacity at the Roorkee unit from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp, a sevenfold expansion. With this addition, Shree Cement’s total solar capacity now stands at 293.5 MWp, further cementing its leadership in green energy adoption within the Indian cement industry.
Developed with a capital investment of approximately ₹16 crore, the project is expected to offset around 6,500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, reducing reliance on grid-based power and enhancing energy resilience.
Commenting on the milestone, Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, said: “Sustainability is embedded in everything we do. The commissioning of the Roorkee solar plant reflects our commitment to reducing carbon emissions, creating local employment, and supporting inclusive economic growth.”
The project aligns with Shree Cement’s broader strategy to integrate renewable energy across its operations, contributing to India's clean energy transition.
