J. Radhakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), conducted a field inspection on September 5, 2025, in Muppandal near Aralvaimozhi to evaluate potential sites for new wind and solar energy projects.
The region currently hosts 20 windmills with a total capacity of 200 kW. During the visit, officials from the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd. (TNGECL) were instructed to upgrade these to higher-capacity units. A solar power plant with a proposed capacity of 3 MW is also under active consideration. To support the anticipated increase in power generation, a new substation worth ₹230 crore and two additional windmills of 750 kW each have received approval.
The Chairman also reviewed access issues to the Kodhayar power plant, where 35 employees currently commute via a forest route from Tirunelveli. The Kanniyakumari district administration has requested a direct road link to the facility. Feasibility studies are expected to follow to evaluate this proposal.
District Collector R. Alagumeena and senior TNEB officials accompanied the visit, underscoring the state government’s continued emphasis on strengthening renewable energy infrastructure and improving operational logistics.
