Websol Energy to Invest ₹3,000 Crore in Major Solar Expansion

The Board of Directors of Websol Energy System has approved a phased expansion plan to add a total of 4 GW of solar cell and 4 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity through a wholly-owned subsidiary, with a projected investment of approximately ₹3,000 crore.

The expansion builds on Websol’s current operations at Falta, West Bengal, where Phase I includes a 600 MW solar cell line and a 550 MW module line, operating at 90% effective capacity utilisation. Phase II, a co-located 600 MW solar cell line, is set to become operational in October 2025, fully funded through internal accruals, taking total solar cell capacity to 1.2 GW.

To meet growing domestic demand and align with advanced manufacturing standards, Websol will adopt TOPCon technology for future phases:

Phase III (by June 2027): Add 2 GW of solar cells and 2 GW of modules

Phase IV (by June 2028): Add another 2 GW of solar cells and 2 GW of modules

Funding for Phases III and IV will come from a mix of internal resources and institutional financing. The strategic expansion positions Websol as a key player in India's growing solar manufacturing ecosystem, aligned with the government’s push for domestic renewable energy production.
