Empowering Green Factories: AEPC and GBCI Drive LEED Certification in India

The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Green Business Certification Institute (GBCI) to advance sustainable practices in India's apparel industry. This collaboration aims to boost the number of garment factories certified under the globally recognized LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system.

LEED certification assesses buildings based on energy efficiency, environmental impact, and resource conservation, contributing to healthier and more eco-friendly workplaces. The partnership was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by AEPC Secretary General Mithileshwar Thakur and Gopalakrishnan P., GBCI’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

AEPC Chairman Sudhir Sekhri highlighted the industry's commitment to sustainability, stating that LEED-certified facilities help reduce energy and water consumption, enhance indoor air quality, lower operational costs, and increase asset value—factors that boost investor confidence. This initiative is expected to support Indian exporters in meeting international sustainability standards and strengthening global competitiveness.
