Rs 1480 Crore for Transformation: India's Technical Textile Vision.

To boost the growth of technical textiles, the Indian government has allocated Rs 1,480 crore to the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) for the period 2020-21 to 2025-26.

The Mission focuses on four key areas: research and development, market promotion, export promotion, and education and skill development. It encourages innovation in technical textiles by supporting the development of new materials and processes while promoting international collaborations.

While traditional textiles continue to play an important role, technical textiles are transforming the industry by emphasizing functionality over aesthetics. These advanced fabrics serve industries such as automotive, construction, agriculture, healthcare, and safety, providing enhanced durability, safety, and efficiency for a variety of applications, including automobile components, medical equipment, and protective gear. With twelve distinct segments, technical textiles are reshaping multiple sectors.

India’s textile industry contributes around two percent to the country's GDP and holds a 3.9 percent share of global textile exports, ranking as the sixth-largest exporter worldwide.
