Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari marked a significant milestone by laying the foundation stones for 15 National Highway (NH) projects in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on January 30, 2024. The total investment for these projects amounts to Rs 8,038 crore, covering a combined length of 499 km. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Notable projects include the widening of the Ayodhya bypass section, the four-lane expansion of the Budhni to Shahganj stretch, and the Shahganj to Bari route. Additionally, two-lane constructions are planned for the Morena, Ambah, and Porsa bypasses, along with the two-laning of Sheopur Gorsa from the Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan border. The expansion of the Budhni-Shahganj section is expected to enhance connectivity within the state, linking the roads to Sehore and Raisen, thereby connecting three major highways in Madhya Pradesh.
During the event, the Union Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for nine NH projects in Jabalpur, collectively costing Rs 2,367 crore and spanning a length of 225 km. Notable projects include a 1.5 km bridge over the Jamni river on the Tikamgarh-Jhansi road and a two-lane paved shoulder road from Chandia Ghat to Katni bypass, contributing to improved connectivity to the Katni coal mines. Furthermore, the widening of the Bamitha-Khajuraho road is expected to boost tourism in Khajuraho.
The ceremony also witnessed the foundation stone laying for the upgradation work from Gulganj Bypass to Barna River, the two-lane road upgradation from Barna river to Ken river, and the two-lane paved shoulder from Shahdol to Sagartola, Lalitpur-Sagar. These developments reflect the government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure and connectivity, fostering economic growth and development in the region.
