$257 Cr. Floating Solar Project Greenlit in UP's Lalitpur

The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the state’s first floating solar power plant, to be developed by GAIL at the Maudaha dam in Lalitpur. The 49 MW project, with an investment of ₹257 crore, is expected to become operational within 18 months and will supply captive power for GAIL’s gas processing facilities.

This initiative is part of a broader plan to install floating solar projects across six identified reservoirs, with Phase 1 targeting a total capacity of 440 MW. UPNEDA has finalized the Maudaha site for development and will continue to accept applications for the remaining locations. Under the Solar Energy Policy–2022, priority in project allotment is given to public sector undertakings (PSUs). A NEDA official confirmed, “We have finalised one of the six locations by approving GAIL’s proposal.”
