$5.8K Cr. Investment to Build 57 New Kendriya Vidyalayas

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across 17 states and union territories, aiming to meet the educational needs of children of Central government employees, particularly in underserved and remote areas.

The project involves a total investment of Rs 5,862.55 crore over a period of nine years starting from 2026–27, comprising:

Rs 2,585.52 crore for capital expenditure, Rs 3,277.03 crore for operational costs

For the first time, the new KVs will include Balvatikas, introducing three years of foundational pre-primary education, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP).

The distribution of the new KVs includes:

20 schools in districts currently without a KV, 14 schools in Aspirational Districts, 4 schools in Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected areas, 5 schools in North Eastern and hilly regions, 7 KVs sponsored by the Ministry of Home Affairs

50 KVs to be supported by respective state and UT governments

Currently, 1,288 Kendriya Vidyalayas are operational across India, with a total enrolment exceeding 13.62 lakh students. The addition of these new schools marks a significant step in expanding access to quality education nationwide.
