India’s first large-scale biopolymer plant, located at Balrampur Chini Mills' Kumbhi sugar unit in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district, is slated to begin operations in October 2026. Built with an investment of Rs 3,080 crore, the facility integrates the entire manufacturing chain on a single campus to convert locally grown sugarcane into Polylactic Acid (PLA)-based bioplastics. Following a foundation stone laying by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2025, district officials recently reviewed the site's progress to ensure a smooth launch aimed at driving sustainable industrial growth in the state.
