On January 17, 2024, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Shree Mandir Parikrama Prakalpa (SMPP), a comprehensive development initiative centered around the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.
The heritage corridor, spanning 75 meters around the temple, now officially bears the name SMPP and is strategically organized into nine distinct zones. Commencing with a seven-meter green buffer zone adjacent to the Meghanada Pacheri, or the temple boundary, followed by a 10-meter Antar Pradakshina, the corridor aims to enhance the overall experience for devotees by providing improved facilities, amenities, and infrastructure.
Within the 10-meter public convenience zone, there are nine restrooms, drinking water facilities, two information-cum-donation kiosks, three mini cloakrooms, and a police kiosk to ensure the comfort and safety of visitors.
Furthermore, the 14-meter landscape zone within the temple corridor features a lush garden, while an eight-meter Bahya Pradakshina provides a serene retreat, complementing the spiritual ambiance of the temple. The design incorporates a shaded footpath and a dedicated emergency lane to enhance both convenience and safety for all those visiting the sacred site.
