A New Era for Adani Power: Dhirauli Mine Cleared for Operations

Adani Power announced on September 2, 2025, that it has received approval from the Ministry of Coal to commence mining operations at the Dhirauli coal block in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. The block is owned by its subsidiary, Mahan Energen.

The captive mine, Adani Power’s first to receive operational clearance, has a peak production capacity of 6.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA)—5 MTPA from open-cast and 1.5 MTPA from underground mining. With 558 million tonnes (MT) of net geological reserves, the mine offers long-term fuel security for the company’s thermal power operations.

SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, stated:

“The commencement of mining at Dhirauli marks a pivotal milestone in our journey toward self-sufficiency and sustainable growth. Backward integration into raw material sourcing allows us to optimise costs and deliver competitively priced power.”

Mining operations will include in-mine coal washing to reduce emissions. The open-cast capacity is expected to be fully operational by FY27, while underground mining is scheduled to begin nine years later.

Coal from Dhirauli will fuel Adani Power’s 1,200 MW Mahan plant, which is undergoing a 3,200 MW capacity expansion, further strengthening the company’s 18,110 MW operational portfolio.
