AAI Pune to Expand Old Terminal Building with Integrated Facilities

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) Pune is set to embark on an expansion project to extend and modernize the old terminal building at Pune Airport. This project follows the successful launch of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) in July 2024, which currently handles a peak hour capacity of 3,000 passengers and includes 34 check-in counters.

The expansion, scheduled to begin in October 2024, will transform the existing arrival hall of the old terminal into an extended departure hall. This renovated space will connect seamlessly to the NITB via a new corridor, enhancing the overall passenger experience. The upgraded area will feature 16 additional check-in counters and an enhanced security check area equipped with door frame metal detectors (DFMDs).

A key aspect of this project is the integration of the old terminal's systems with those of the NITB. This integration aims to ensure a smooth transition and operational cohesion across all terminal facilities, improving the efficiency and convenience of airport operations for passengers and staff alike.

Covering an additional 4,000 square meters, this ₹25-crore expansion is expected to be completed by March 2025. The project reflects AAI Pune's commitment to modernizing airport infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of passengers and improving overall airport efficiency.

Upon completion, the expanded terminal will significantly enhance Pune Airport's capacity and operational capabilities, providing a more comfortable and streamlined experience for travelers. This development is part of AAI Pune's broader strategy to continuously upgrade its facilities to meet the rising demand for air travel in the region.
