Adani Power has entered into an agreement with Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) of Bhutan to jointly develop the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydropower Project, with an estimated investment of ₹6,000 crore.
Structured under a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) model, the project represents a significant step forward in India-Bhutan energy cooperation. Key agreements, including the Power Purchase and Concession Agreements, were signed in the presence of Bhutan’s Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. With the Detailed Project Report already completed, construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026, and the project is expected to be commissioned within five years.
The Wangchhu project will address Bhutan’s peak winter energy demand, while surplus electricity generated during summer will be exported to India, reinforcing regional energy integration. This is the first initiative under the May 2025 MoU between Adani Group and DGPC to co-develop 5,000 MW of hydropower capacity in Bhutan, highlighting a strong and long-term strategic partnership.
