Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) and TotalEnergies have announced a strategic 50:50 joint venture (JV) to manage a portfolio of solar projects totaling 1,150 MW in Khavda, Gujarat, home to the world’s largest renewable energy plant. This partnership marks a significant step in bolstering India's clean energy infrastructure.
AGEL will contribute its existing assets to the JV, while TotalEnergies will invest approximately $444 million to expedite the development of these solar projects. This collaboration strengthens the partnership between the two companies, reflecting their commitment to accelerating India's transition to sustainable energy sources.
The electricity generated from these solar projects will be sold through power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and on the wholesale market. AGEL already has a cumulative capacity of 2,250 MW of solar and wind energy operational at the Khavda site, showcasing the site's growing importance in India's renewable energy landscape.
Once fully operational, the solar projects will provide affordable clean energy to over 16 million households across India. Additionally, the initiative is expected to create over 15,200 green jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy and reducing carbon emissions by 58 million tonnes annually.
This JV highlights the ongoing efforts of AGEL and TotalEnergies to support India’s ambitious clean energy goals, further establishing Khavda as a key player in the global renewable energy market.
