Adani Power Lands Massive 2,400 MW Project in Bihar

Adani Power has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) for a 25-year long-term power supply agreement. The electricity will be sourced from a planned 2,400 MW (3x800 MW) greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to be developed at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district, Bihar.

The agreement will be formalised through a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with North Bihar Power Distribution Company (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company (SBPDCL). Adani Power secured the project as the lowest bidder in BSPGCL’s tariff-based competitive bidding process, quoting ₹6.075 per kWh.

The company plans to invest approximately USD 3 billion in the project, which is expected to generate 10,000–12,000 jobs during the construction phase and around 3,000 permanent positions once operational. The project marks a major step toward strengthening Bihar’s energy infrastructure, aligning with India's projected power demand growth to 400 GW by 2031–32 and over 700 GW by 2047.
