Adani Wins Bid for ₹4,081 Crore Kedarnath Ropeway Project

Adani Enterprises Ltd. (AEL) has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML) for developing its first ropeway project under the National Ropeways Development Programme – Parvatmala Pariyojana.

The project involves constructing a 12.9 km ropeway connecting Sonprayag to Kedarnath, drastically reducing the current 8–9 hour trek to just 36 minutes. Designed to handle 1,800 passengers per hour per direction (PPHPD), the system is expected to serve lakhs of pilgrims annually, offering a safer, faster, and more accessible route to the revered shrine.

AEL’s Roads, Metro, Rail, and Water (RMRW) vertical will implement the project on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. With an estimated investment of ₹4,081 crore, the project includes a six-year construction period, followed by a 29-year concession for operations and maintenance.

In addition to improving religious connectivity, the ropeway is projected to:

Boost tourism infrastructure in Uttarakhand, Generate local employment opportunities, Stimulate regional economic activity

The Kedarnath ropeway will be a key component of India's efforts to modernize pilgrimage infrastructure and promote sustainable transport solutions in ecologically sensitive areas.
