Agra Metro's Elevated Corridor Gains Ground with Pier Cap Launch

The construction of Agra Metro’s second corridor marked a major milestone with the successful installation of the first pier cap at Agra Cantt on May 17, 2025. Executed by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), this fully elevated 16-km corridor runs from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar and includes 14 stations currently under construction. Completion is targeted for mid-2026.

Pier caps are being produced using precast technology at a casting yard in Dauki. Each cap weighs 65 tonnes and measures 9.6 meters in length, 2.9 meters in width, and 1.8 meters in depth. A 400-tonne crane is used for installation.

UPMRC Project Director Arvind Rai, along with representatives from Larsen & Toubro (L&T), attended the installation ceremony.

Meanwhile, construction continues on the first Agra Metro corridor from Taj East Gate to Sikandra, spanning 14 km with 13 stations—six elevated and seven underground. A 6-km priority section from Taj Mahal East Gate to Mankameshwar Temple is already operational. Trial runs on the underground section have been completed, with full operations expected by December 2025.
