AMNS India Revolutionizes Automotive Steel with New Hazira Line

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS India) has commissioned a new Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL) at its Hazira facility in Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in the production of Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) for India’s automotive sector.

The new CGL is part of AMNS India's ₹60,000 crore expansion project aimed at increasing Hazira’s production capacity from 9 million tonnes (MT) to 15 MT. The line is capable of manufacturing AHSS with strength levels of up to 1,180 megapascals (MPa), offering enhanced safety, durability, and sustainability—key attributes for next-generation automotive applications.

“With this development, we are proud to match the steel quality standards of developed nations,” said Dilip Oommen, CEO of AMNS India, during a virtual address. The company stated that it is now the first in India to produce the highest-grade AHSS, supporting the country’s push for self-reliance in advanced steel manufacturing.

Beyond the Hazira expansion, AMNS India is also working toward scaling up its total production capacity to 24 MTPA and is advancing plans to establish integrated steel plants in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, reinforcing its long-term growth strategy in India’s steel sector.
