Anchored in Progress: Goa’s New ₹49-Crore Maritime Hub Opens

In a major boost to regional maritime administration, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal officially opened the new ₹48.87 crore Captain of Ports Terminal Building. Modeled after a docked ship on the Mandovi River, the landmark G+3 structure spans over $4,405\text{ sq. m.}$ and serves as a highly efficient administrative and navigation hub. Built by GSIDC, the facility integrates advanced vessel monitoring systems, radio communication centers, and marine offices with public amenities like a double-height lobby, an indoor restaurant, and a 450-seat rooftop amphitheater. Speaking at the ceremony alongside Goa CM Pramod Sawant and Union Minister Shripad Naik, officials emphasized that the terminal reflects the national momentum toward sustainable, modernized maritime infrastructure and drastically reduced vessel turnaround times.
