Andhra on the Move: The ₹1.40 Lakh Crore Infrastructure Push

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to expedite the completion of ongoing National Highway projects in the state involving an investment of ₹1.40 lakh crore, according to a recent official release. He also instructed that the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor, which connects to the greenfield capital city of Amaravati, be completed by 2027.

Highlighting the need to lower freight transportation costs, the Chief Minister asked officials to prioritise road projects that enhance logistics efficiency across Andhra Pradesh. He emphasised the importance of effectively linking National Highways to key ports at Mulapeta in Srikakulam district, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam, and Krishnapatnam.

Naidu stressed the development of strong road connectivity from hinterland regions to these ports to facilitate cargo movement from neighbouring states. He also sought the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for the proposed Kharagpur–Amaravati Greenfield Expressway and directed officials to plan road connectivity between Nagpur in Maharashtra and Machilipatnam via Vijayawada and other strategic locations.

Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed the Roads and Buildings Department to draw up plans for expanding the state’s existing road network. Officials informed him that an action plan has been prepared to construct 6,054 km of roads at an estimated cost of ₹2,500 crore. They also noted that modern construction technologies are being adopted, including experimental roads using Danish fibre, waste plastic bitumen, and nano-concrete technology developed by IIT Tirupati.
