AP Revamps Northern Roads for Smoother Travel

The Andhra Pradesh government is planning a significant upgrade of four key roads in the northern region to four-lane highways. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity, support spiritual tourism, and reduce traffic congestion while improving access to tribal areas and interstate roads, benefiting both local residents and cross-border travelers.

The first proposed upgrade is the 160-kilometer Vizianagaram to Palasa road, which will connect Chipurupalli, Rajam, Palakonda, Kotturu, and Palasa in Andhra Pradesh with Parlakhemundi in Odisha. This road will also improve access to areas like Meliaputti and Chapara in Srikakulam, serving as a crucial interstate link and aiding tribal communities in marketing their agricultural products.

Another key road, the 60-kilometer Rambhadrapuram to Chilakapalem stretch, which passes through Rajam and Ponduru, is also set for a four-lane expansion. This upgrade is expected to streamline traffic and improve travel times in the region.

The Rambhadrapuram to Rayagada road, extending to Parvathipuram and crossing into Odisha, will be upgraded to serve as a vital interstate connection. This will further strengthen ties between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, enhancing economic and social exchanges between the states.

Lastly, the Nellimarla Junction to Ranastalam road will be expanded to facilitate access to significant spiritual sites, including the Majji Gairamma Temple in Rayagada and the Lord Kodanda Rama Swamy Temple in Ramatheerdham. The upgrade is expected to boost spiritual tourism, drawing more visitors to these important religious destinations.

Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appala Naidu has actively advocated for these road upgrades, receiving a positive response from Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who has pledged to advance the development of these projects. The improvements are anticipated to greatly enhance regional infrastructure, benefiting both local communities and visitors by improving connectivity between tribal areas and urban centers like Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.
