Ashok Leyland has recently announced the ground-breaking of a new greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam near Chennai. The project will involve an investment of approximately ₹400–500 crore and is part of the broader investment commitments made by the Hinduja Group under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2025.
The upcoming facility is expected to support Ashok Leyland’s electric mobility initiatives and strengthen the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain in India. It also aligns with the Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicle Policy 2023, the National Mission on Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage, and India’s long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
