Assam Scores Big with Rs 25,000 Crore Chip Plant

Assam is on the verge of welcoming a groundbreaking semiconductor packaging plant valued at nearly Rs 25,000 crore, marking its inaugural investment in such a pivotal facility. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, shared this significant development during his address at the inaugural 'Digital India Future Skills Summit' in Guwahati.

In collaboration with the Assam government and the Tata Group, this state-of-the-art facility will soon materialize, with the initiation of approval procedures set to commence promptly. The comprehensive proposal is slated for submission to the Cabinet for its ultimate endorsement.

Highlighting the burgeoning employment prospects stemming from such initiatives, Minister Chandrasekhar underscored the critical importance of cultivating expertise in domains like AI, cybersecurity, and semiconductor technology in the foreseeable future. Prime Minister Modi's visionary blueprint, encompassing 'futureDESIGN' for design innovation, 'futureLABS' for systemic innovation, and 'futureSKILLS' aimed at equipping India's youth with proficiencies in burgeoning sectors such as semiconductors, underscores the nation's commitment to staying ahead in the global technological landscape.

Recently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Tata Electronics is advancing with plans to establish a semiconductor assembly and packaging plant in Jagiroad, underscoring the region's strategic significance in this pivotal industry.
