Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for an ammonia–urea fertiliser project at Namrup in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on December 21, 2025. The project, to be developed at an investment of ₹11,000 crore, marks a significant milestone in the region’s industrial growth.
Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister said the modern fertiliser unit would generate thousands of employment and self-employment opportunities across the region. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce more than 12 lakh tonnes of fertiliser annually, ensuring faster availability to local farmers while reducing transportation and logistics costs.
Calling the occasion historic for Assam and the Northeast, PM Modi said the project fulfils long-pending aspirations of the people of Namrup and Dibrugarh and signals the beginning of a new phase of industrial development. He noted that Assam is witnessing rapid progress across sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, industry, tourism and technology.
Emphasising the critical role of farmers in building a developed India, the Prime Minister said the new urea plant would ensure uninterrupted fertiliser supply and strengthen the country’s journey towards self-reliance in fertiliser production.
