The Karnataka State Cabinet has approved a transformative infrastructure project in Bengaluru: the construction of a 16.7-kilometre underground tunnel road, known as the North-South Corridor. This high-capacity urban tunnel will connect Esteem Mall at Hebbal Junction with the Central Silk Board Junction in HSR Layout, aiming to significantly reduce the city’s persistent traffic congestion.
With an estimated cost of ₹17,780 crore, the project will be executed in two phases and is slated for completion within three years. The corridor will include multiple two- to three-lane entry and exit points to enhance north-south mobility across Bengaluru.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the government will invite global tenders and consider either a hybrid model or a Build–Own–Operate–Transfer (BOOT) approach, with the final procurement strategy to be determined in consultation with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after technical evaluations.
Additionally, the Cabinet has cleared a ₹4,792 crore waste management initiative within BBMP limits. Spanning seven years and divided into 33 packages, this project aims to streamline operations by consolidating efforts in waste segregation, vehicle tracking, and construction waste disposal—marking a departure from previous fragmented schemes.
