BGCL: Expanding Gas Reach Across West Bengal

The Bengal Gas Company Ltd. (BGCL), a joint venture between GAIL and Greater Calcutta Gas Supply Corporation Ltd. (GCGSCL), has announced significant expansion plans for its piped natural gas (PNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure in West Bengal.

By the end of the year, BGCL aims to connect approximately 25,000 households to its PNG network and add 12 new CNG stations in the greater Kolkata region, bringing the total number to 30. Looking ahead, BGCL CEO Anupam Mukhopadhyay outlined the company’s goal of reaching five lakh residential PNG consumers within five years. To support this growth, around 90 CNG stations are planned across the state.

As part of this initiative, State Industries Minister Shashi Panja recently inaugurated two new CNG stations—Surya Filling Station in Bagbazar and Bela Energy Station near Ganesh Talkies. She also announced that four to five additional CNG stations catering to buses are expected to launch in key locations such as Ultadanga, Tollygunge, and Neelganj before the upcoming festive season.
