Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed Bhagadatta Flyover-2 on 6 July 2025, connecting Rukminigaon Road with Bormotoria Link Road at Downtown Point in Guwahati.
Constructed at a cost of ₹112 crore, the 660-meter-long, four-lane flyover was completed in a record time of just nine months—half the originally sanctioned duration of 18 months. Named after the legendary King Bhagadatta of ancient Kamarupa, the flyover is part of Assam’s broader initiative to modernize Guwahati’s transport infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion. The existing flyover in the Super Market area has now been officially renamed Bhagadatta Flyover-1.
In his inaugural address, CM Sarma highlighted the use of advanced composite structure technology, a construction innovation implemented in collaboration with RITES India. This is only the second such project in the country to adopt this method. The Chief Minister also lauded the young professionals behind the successful execution of the project.
To support local businesses and ease traffic management, provisions for vehicle parking have been integrated beneath the flyover.
