Bhimber Boom: Tunnel Construction Launches in J&K

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) recently initiated construction of the Bhimber Gali Tunnel with an inaugural blast along the Jammu-Poonch National Highway. This 1.1 km tunnel is a key component of a 16.1 km road project connecting Kalali in Rajouri to Bhataduria in Poonch, significantly reducing travel distance by 10.8 km.

The blast was carried out by BRO’s Project Sampark Chief Engineer, Brig Neeraj Madan, and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Jammu Regional Officer, A.M. Prasad. The ceremony, which included a traditional prayer, was attended by officials from the civil administration, underscoring the collaborative effort to improve connectivity in the Pir Panjal region.

Once completed, the tunnel will serve as an alternative route for both civilian and military movement in the strategically important Rajouri-Poonch sector. This project follows the successful breakthrough of the 700-meter Naushera Tunnel in January, showcasing BRO’s commitment to rapid infrastructure development in Jammu and Kashmir.

Brig Madan highlighted the tunnel’s vital role in enhancing regional accessibility, boosting economic growth, and strengthening national security. The BRO remains dedicated to improving connectivity in remote and forward areas, ensuring efficient transport for both defense and civilian purposes.
