The Maharashtra Transmission Committee (MTC) has approved Tata Power Company – Transmission’s (TPC-T) proposal to modernise the 110kV Bhivpuri–Ambernath–Kalyan transmission corridor, aiming to enhance reliability and expand transmission capacity across the region.
Formally titled “Upgradation and augmentation of existing 110kV Bhivpuri–Ambernath–Kalyan Corridor by replacing existing conductor with higher capacity conductor along with tower modification/replacement,” the project will upgrade approximately 67 km of line infrastructure. Key enhancements include the replacement of current 110kV systems with 220kV multi-circuit towers.
The project will be executed in two phases:
Phase I: 20 km (₹300 crore), Phase II: 47 km (₹581 crore)
The total estimated cost is ₹881 crore, with commissioning targeted during FY29 (April 2028 – March 2029).
While projects above ₹200 crore typically fall under tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB), the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has allowed this project to proceed under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM). The MTC justified the exception, classifying the initiative as an asset upgradation, rather than a greenfield development.
