Big Boost for Amaravati: ₹2,787 Cr Central Projects Approved

The Union government has granted in-principle approval for two major infrastructure projects in Amaravati, signaling renewed momentum in the long-delayed development of the proposed state capital.

The Department of Expenditure under the Ministry of Finance has cleared the construction of a Common Central Secretariat and General Pool Residential Accommodation for Central government employees. The combined project cost is estimated at ₹2,787 crore — ₹1,458 crore for the Secretariat and ₹1,329 crore for the residential facilities.

Initially proposed in 2018, both projects were stalled due to prolonged political and administrative uncertainty surrounding Amaravati’s status as the capital. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) will undertake the construction.

Union Minister of State Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar welcomed the approvals and extended his thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for their support.
