Bondada Engineering has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd. (TNGECL) to develop standalone grid-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a cumulative capacity of 400 MWh (200 MW × 2 hours) at Vellaviduthi and Thennampatty in Tamil Nadu. This marks the largest energy storage order in the company’s history and a key step toward its goal of achieving 10 GW of green energy capacity by 2030.
Awarded under a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model through tariff-based competitive bidding, the project benefits from state viability gap funding (VGF) and is designed to deliver two-cycle charging and discharging capabilities to provide on-demand grid support. The initiative will play a crucial role in enhancing grid reliability, facilitating the integration of renewable energy, and addressing peak power demand, thereby accelerating Tamil Nadu’s clean energy transition.
“This project marks a major milestone for Bondada Group in the energy storage space and reflects our strong commitment to advancing India’s clean energy ecosystem,” a company spokesperson stated.
The project is slated for execution within 18 months from the signing of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA). With a total contract consideration of ₹836 crore over 12 years, the award solidifies Bondada Engineering’s position as a growing leader in large-scale energy storage solutions across India.
