BPCL Goes Big: ₹25,000 Crore for City Gas Expansion

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) plans to invest ₹25,000 crore over the next five years to expand its city gas distribution (CGD) network across the country.

Speaking at India Energy Week in Goa on January 29, 2026, Rahul Tandon, Business Head – Gas at BPCL, said the company has already invested around ₹8,000 crore across its 26 authorised geographical areas. He added that BPCL remains committed to rapidly scaling up its CGD infrastructure in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat.

“We are very confident that we will be able to accelerate the entire activity much faster than any other CGD entity in the country,” Tandon said, referring to the expansion of BPCL’s CGD network.

BPCL also revealed that it has received bids from more than ten international players for a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply contract. Under the proposed plan, the company intends to source four LNG cargoes annually during the first three years, with volumes rising to eight cargoes per year over the subsequent seven years. The LNG will be used to meet the requirements of CGD entities, customers, and BPCL’s internal consumption needs.
