Bridging the Future: NHAI Set to Finalize ₹8,307 Cr Ring Road Tenders

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has seen strong interest from bidders for the proposed 111-km, six-lane greenfield Capital Region Ring Road project. Officials stated that tenders were floated in three packages, attracting 23 bids for Package I, 25 for Package II, and 16 for Package III.

Cleared by the Union Cabinet, the project involves constructing a 111-km ring road from Rameshwar to Tangi under the hybrid annuity mode at an estimated cost of ₹8,307 crore. NHAI officials noted that nearly 96% of the required land has already been acquired, and key forest, wildlife, and environmental approvals are in place.

Authorities expect to finalise the tenders by March, with construction set to commence soon after. The project is scheduled for completion within two and a half years.

Once operational, the corridor is expected to ease congestion, particularly along NH-16, which currently runs through the city. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the ring road will help decongest Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Khurda, enhance regional connectivity, lower logistics costs, create employment opportunities, and promote economic growth by enabling safer and faster travel.
