Bypassing the Road: BPCL’s New ATF Pipeline for Hyderabad

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed an agreement with GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) to develop a dedicated aviation turbine fuel (ATF) pipeline connecting BPCL’s Malkapur installation to the fuel farm at GMR Hyderabad International Airport.

The agreement is aimed at ensuring a reliable, efficient, and environmentally sustainable fuel supply to one of India’s fastest-growing airports. The proposed ATF pipeline will span approximately 56 km, including around one kilometre within the airport premises. Once commissioned, the pipeline will operate on a common-carrier basis, enabling efficient fuel transportation while significantly reducing dependence on road-based logistics.

Highlighting the project’s environmental benefits, BPCL stated that the dedicated pipeline underscores the company’s commitment to developing future-ready energy infrastructure and lowering carbon emissions by minimising fuel transportation by road. Sanjeev Kumar, BPCL’s Business Head – Aviation, said the initiative reflects BPCL’s focus on sustainable aviation fuel logistics.

Pradeep Panicker, CEO of GHIAL, noted that the partnership aligns with the airport’s objective of delivering cost-efficient and sustainable operational solutions. The agreement was signed by Sujit Kumar on behalf of BPCL and Ashish Kumar representing GHIAL.
