Cabinet Clears Massive ₹7,145 Cr Kanpur–Kabrai Highway Project

The Union Cabinet has greenlit the construction of a 117.7-km, four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway connecting Kanpur and Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh. Executed by the NHAI under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) (Toll) model, this ₹7,145.14 crore project is a vital link in the larger Bhopal–Kanpur Economic Corridor.

Designed for speeds up to 100 kmph, the highway will slash travel times from 3.5 hours to just 1.5 hours. Strategically aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, it integrates with major routes like the Bundelkhand Expressway and the Kanpur Ring Road, directly connecting dozens of economic, social, and logistics hubs. Beyond transforming regional logistics efficiency, the project is slated to handle over 18,000 passenger car units daily by FY28 and generate roughly 1.2 crore person-days of employment during its construction.
