A 2.3-kilometre-long aqueduct over the Chambal River in Rajasthan is set to significantly enhance drinking water supply and irrigation facilities across 17 districts.
The aqueduct forms part of the Parvati–Kalisindh–Chambal (PKC) Link Project, which is integrated with the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) under the national river linking programme. The initiative aims to divert surplus water from the Chambal basin to water-deficient regions of the state, benefiting an estimated population of 3.25 crore. The project agreement between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh was signed on 17 December 2024.
The structure will connect Pipalda Samel village in Kota district to Guhata in Bundi district. Water from the Navnera barrage will be conveyed to multiple dams in the region, strengthening irrigation infrastructure. With an estimated cost of ₹2,230 crore, the aqueduct is scheduled for completion by June 2028. In addition to water transfer, it will also function as a supplementary public transport corridor and is a key component of the larger ₹90,000 crore initiative aimed at addressing Rajasthan’s long-standing water scarcity challenges.
