Chennai Metro Phase-II Gets a Boost: Alstom Begins Production of Driverless Trainsets

Alstom's sustainable mobility initiative has reached a significant milestone with the commencement of production for its Metropolis driverless trainsets tailored for the Chennai Metro Rail's Phase-II. The manufacturing facility in SriCity is now bustling with activity as Alstom gears up to deliver 36 trainsets, each comprising three cars capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 km per hour.

These state-of-the-art trains are purposefully crafted to operate seamlessly along a 26-kilometer corridor, a vital segment of the Metro route spanning from Poonamallee Bypass to Light House, encompassing 28 stations. Among these stations, 18 are elevated, while the remaining 10 are underground, offering commuters a comprehensive network for their travel needs.

With a steadfast commitment to safety and passenger comfort, these trainsets are poised to revolutionize commuting for over 11 million citizens in Chennai. Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) is at the forefront of redefining the commuting experience, prioritizing sustainability by curbing emissions and alleviating road congestion. By introducing these advanced trainsets, Alstom and CMRL are jointly ushering in a new era of eco-friendly and efficient urban transportation.
