CIL and AMNS Team Up for Odisha Gasification Project

Coal India Limited (CIL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AMNS) to evaluate the feasibility of establishing a coal gasification facility near AMNS's Paradip pellet plant in Odisha. The initiative focuses on generating synthesis gas—utilizing advanced CCUS technology—to serve as an alternative fuel and chemical reducing agent for steel production. This collaboration directly supports the broader objectives of India's Rs 37,500-crore incentive scheme, which seeks to gasify 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030 and lower national imports of liquefied natural gas, ammonia, urea, and methanol.
