Clean Energy Push: IGL's Rs 2,066 Crore Rajasthan Solar Venture

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has greenlit a renewable energy initiative to set up a 500 MWp solar power plant in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, with an investment of Rs 2,066 crore. This project aligns with IGL’s broader strategy to diversify into clean energy and meet its net-zero emissions targets.

The solar plant will be developed in collaboration with Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL), a government-owned power company. The joint venture will see IGL holding a 74% stake, while RVUNL will hold the remaining 26%. RVUNL will provide land at its upcoming solar park in Bikaner and will also assist with power transmission infrastructure.

The project is slated for completion within 18 months from the formation of the joint venture, which is currently under review by the state Cabinet. Upon approval, construction will commence. Financing for the project will be a blend of debt and equity.

This solar initiative is part of IGL’s ambition to develop a 1 GW renewable energy portfolio within the next two to four years. By expanding its footprint in clean energy, IGL aims to support India’s sustainability targets and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
