Corning Inc. and SGD Pharma have jointly established a state-of-the-art glass tubing manufacturing facility in Vemula, Mahbubnagar district, Telangana, with an investment of ₹500 crore.
The facility integrates Corning’s advanced Velocity® vial technology with SGD Pharma’s expertise in vial conversion to produce high-quality Type I borosilicate glass tubing—a critical component in injectable drug packaging, diagnostics, biologics, and direct injection systems. The plant is designed to meet growing regional demand by scaling production capacity, localising supply chains, and enhancing customer proximity.
This initiative is expected to accelerate the delivery of injectable treatments, support India’s thriving pharmaceutical sector, and improve access to safe, reliable medicines. It also aligns with the country’s goals of self-reliance and sustainable development.
The facility will create approximately 150 direct jobs and hundreds of indirect employment opportunities, contributing to the local economy. Leaders from both Corning and SGD Pharma described the project as a strategic milestone in their regional and global expansion plans.
