Cochin Shipyard Limited's (CSL) forthcoming International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) at Willingdon Island, Kochi, signals a pivotal stride in propelling India's maritime industry onto a global stage. This substantial project, priced at 970 crore, promises significant implications for the nation's marine trade landscape.
The ISRF is designed with notable features, including a robust ship lift and transfer system boasting a 120,000 DWT capacity, along with six dry berths capable of accommodating vessels stretching up to 300 meters in length. Complemented by auxiliary structures like workshops, warehouses, and administrative buildings, this facility primarily targets the repair and servicing of sizable container ships, tankers, and offshore vessels.
Anticipated benefits encompass a transformative surge in CSL's ship repair capacity, particularly catering to larger and intricate vessels, potentially magnetizing international clientele and positioning India as a paramount ship repair destination. Furthermore, this mega initiative is poised to trigger substantial job creation, fostering economic growth in Kochi and Kerala, while also fortifying India's role in global maritime trade by attracting more vessels to Indian ports.
Crucially, the ISRF isn't merely an infrastructural enhancement but also a testament to technological progression, leveraging cutting-edge advancements and state-of-the-art equipment. This strategic modernization will bolster CSL's competencies and prowess in the domain of ship repair, thus augmenting India's stature in the global maritime industry.
As on December, 2023. The project is now in the stage of construction being started. The completion of the project's work has reached the 50% mark. The work on the project will be finished by June of 2024.
