Deharji Water Project Hits 80% Milestone in Palghar

The Deharji Medium Project in Maharashtra’s Palghar district has achieved 80% completion, according to MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee. This vital water infrastructure project is being built on the Deharji River, a tributary of the Vaitarna River, near Suksale village in Vikramgad.

The project features an earthen and masonry dam measuring 2,450 meters in length and 71.6 meters in height. It includes four spillway gates, each 12 x 6.5 meters in size. Once completed, the dam will have a total storage capacity of 95.60 million cubic meters and a usable capacity of 93.22 million cubic meters, supporting a water supply of 255 MLD (million litres per day).

Implemented by the Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation (KIDC), the project is backed by Rs 2,599.15 crore in funding from MMRDA under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Originally awarded to PVR Projects in 2006, the initiative is now progressing steadily, with MMRDA also preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for the associated bulk water supply scheme.

Targeted for completion by 2027, the Deharji Medium Project is designed to provide a long-term, sustainable source of drinking water for the region.
