Delhi Assembly's 500 kW Solar Project to Power Its Future

On May 12, 2025, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena laid the foundation stone for a 500 kW solar power plant at the Delhi Legislative Assembly. This initiative will increase the Assembly’s solar energy capacity from 200 kW to 500 kW, making it fully self-sufficient in meeting its electricity needs.

According to the Delhi government, the solar upgrade is expected to save approximately ₹15 lakh per month and could generate additional revenue through surplus energy. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta highlighted the project’s environmental and societal significance, stating, “This initiative not only promotes sustainability but also sets an example for citizens. The estimated annual savings of ₹1.75 crore on electricity bills will be redirected toward development work.”

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the project’s alignment with the Centre’s PM-Surya Ghar Yojana and reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating the public’s shift to solar energy. “Under this scheme, residents can receive subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for adopting solar solutions,” she noted. With Delhi’s electricity demand expected to rise from 8,000 MW to 9,000 MW, she added that such sustainable measures are crucial for securing the city’s energy future.
