Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate 19 key water and sewerage infrastructure projects in Delhi today, collectively valued at ₹1,816.69 crore. The launch will take place at the Keshopur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and is part of the ‘Sewa Pakhwara’ initiative.
The projects include significant upgrades to existing STPs and the laying of new sewer lines to expand and modernize Delhi’s wastewater management system. At Keshopur, two STPs are being upgraded at a cost of ₹504.12 crore, expected to benefit approximately 25 lakh residents in West Delhi.
A total of eight major STPs—including those in Kondli, Rohini, Coronation Pillar, Narela, Yamuna Vihar, and Najafgarh—will be inaugurated. However, the much-anticipated Okhla STP, which was earlier scheduled for launch and touted as Asia’s largest, has been postponed.
In addition, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has approved several decentralised sewage treatment plants (DSTPs) for locations where conventional STPs are not feasible. These are expected to benefit nearly 11 lakh people by addressing localised sewage treatment needs.
The event will also mark the inauguration of three drinking water infrastructure projects, including underground reservoirs and booster pumping stations in Palla, Siraspur, and Bijwasan, aimed at improving water supply reliability in key areas.
