Indian Railways and the Central Government have approved two major infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in northwest Delhi.
On May 10, 2026, Rekha Gupta announced that the Haiderpur-Badli rail overbridge (ROB) will be widened to address long-standing bottlenecks along the Outer Ring Road. The project is expected to significantly reduce congestion at Mukarba Chowk, improving traffic flow for daily commuters as well as commercial vehicles moving toward key industrial and logistics zones.
In addition, authorities have approved the construction of a new elevated loop connecting Shalimar Bagh with Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. The proposed loop will pass over existing railway tracks, creating a direct corridor between the two locations while bypassing heavily congested surface routes. The Public Works Department (PWD) has completed the engineering designs and technical plans required for railway approvals.
These infrastructure initiatives are expected to strengthen Delhi’s urban transport network, improve freight movement efficiency, and reduce travel time for thousands of commuters across the capital region.
