The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has mandated the installation of solar power plants as a prerequisite for building plan approvals, as announced by the Architecture and Environs Department.
NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal stated that to promote solar energy adoption, subsidies equivalent to those offered by the Central government will be provided. “In the near future, solar panels will be installed on every rooftop within the NDMC jurisdiction, with a final decision to be made in the next council meeting. Our aim is to achieve self-sustainability by 2026,” he said.
Additionally, the Vice Chairman urged an exemption from NDMC’s required Rs 149 crore payment for 100 MW of assured electricity from gas-based plants, advocating for payments based solely on actual consumption.
