Double-Decker Delay: Sewri-Worli Link Target Pushed to 2027

The completion timeline for the Sewri-Worli Connector and the integrated Elphinstone Bridge reconstruction project in Prabhadevi has been extended to early 2027.

Executed by the MMRDA in partnership with contractor J Kumar, the critical east-west corridor faced operational delays during foundation piling and excavation, primarily driven by the need to safeguard sensitive BMC utility networks, including stormwater drains and sewage mains. Weather-related disruptions and labor constraints further impacted the construction schedule.

Progress continues on the double-decker design that replaces the historic bridge—closed to traffic since September 2025. The lower level will restore essential local traffic flow, while the upper deck integrates with the 4.5 km corridor linking western Mumbai with the Atal Setu. MMRDA has mobilized resources to mitigate further delays, with targeted commissioning now scheduled for Q1 2027.
