Driving Trichy Forward: The Panjapur Six-Lane Flyover Project

Tamil Nadu’s Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru has announced the construction of a six-lane flyover at Panjapur on the Trichy-Madurai National Highway (NH) to ease traffic congestion in the rapidly growing area.

The 3.5 km flyover, modeled after the Kathipara junction in Chennai, will be executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Land acquisition has been completed by the district administration, and a detailed project report (DPR) is in progress, with design options like the cloverleaf model under consideration.

Panjapur is emerging as a major infrastructure hub, with planned projects such as a Tidel Park and a new wholesale market. In addition, a four-lane semi-ring road connecting the Trichy-Madurai and Trichy-Karur highways is under construction.

During his visit to Trichy, the Minister also laid foundation stones and inaugurated civic projects worth ₹70 crore within Trichy Corporation limits. He confirmed that the state has completed its part of the Maris Road Over Bridge (RoB) and Stage II of the Trichy Railway Junction RoB, and is now awaiting completion by Southern Railway.

He further noted that a Metro rail proposal for Trichy is under active review, with preliminary surveys set to begin soon, and that plans for expanding the corporation limits are also underway.
